KING NANDO DIES AT 62

Born Fernando Rivera on May 26, 1945 and known to Latin Fans by his stage name King Nando rose to popularity during the 60s and 70s Boogalu (Boogaloo) trend.  King Nando recorded several LPs including “Shing-A-Ling with King Nando, A New King is Born” that included his hit song “Fortuna.”  Although never credited, many Latin fans who cherish the classic Boogaloo considers King Nando one of the founding fathers of Boogaloo and Shing-A-Ling.

King Nando and his Orquesta performed at several venues during the Boogaloo craze including The Village Gate and The Beacon Theather.  Sadly, the Latin Music Industry lost another great legend.   King Nando passed away February 2nd 2008.

In an email sent by George Rodriguez (New Swing Sextet) stated, “former manager Richie Bonilla sends his condolences and wanted folks to know that Boogalu famed musician and artist, King Nando,  passed quietly in his sleep on Saturday, February 2, 2008.  He will be viewed Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the:

He is survived by five sons: Scott Fernando Rivera, John Paul Rivera, Marcus Rivera, Sebastian Rivera and John David Rivera.  His life companion, Iris Soto will be receiving visitors.”

Purtroppo un'altra brutta notizia ed un altro grande musicista che ci lascia.

Nando era un grande cantante di Doo Wop e R&B e fu uno dei primissimi a latinizzare questi generi,buttando le basi del Boogaloo
e dello Shing A Ling.
